Come for the Weekend, Stay for the Answer

Calistoga is the small town at the north end of Napa Valley where the vineyards run out and the hot springs begin. These guides plan the trip from where you live to one table on Lincoln Avenue.

Disclosure: Maria Concetto Winery is a DevourNow client.

How every route ends

One afternoon, staged in order.

The table
Mezze, skewers, warm bread
Exit

A proposal trip has two halves. One is the moment itself. The other is everything around it: the drive or the flight, the room, the timing, the dinner after. Most guides only cover the first half.

These pages cover both. Each one starts in a different city and ends in the same place: Maria Concetto Winery at 1367 Lincoln Avenue in downtown Calistoga, where the afternoon is built around the question. Wine first, poured by the winery's robot, Robinovino. Then the ring. Then a Mediterranean table and a slow ride through the vines.

Choose your route

Start with the city you are leaving from. Each guide covers the road or the flight, where to stay in Calistoga and how to plan the weekend around Saturday.

From San Francisco → Seventy-two miles over the Golden Gate Bridge, two roads north and a room on Lincoln Avenue.

From Sacramento → The fast road on Highway 12 or the slow one past Lake Berryessa, and one night in town.

From San Jose → A hundred and ten miles from the South Bay, two nights and a Saturday with no driving in it.

Wherever you start

Three things to book first

  • The room: Calistoga is small, and weekends in harvest season fill early.
  • The proposal: call the winery and talk through the timing.
  • The way home: plan Saturday so nobody drives after the wine.
